European Media and Platform Policy (EuromediApp) - Stakeholders

European Media and Platform Policy (EuromediApp) is a Jean Monnet network dedicated to studying, analysing and discussing benefits and challenges of digital platforms in Europe and world-wide.

By bringing together knowledge and research capacity from all over Europe and beyond, EuromediApp provides space for national and transnational deliberation on how future digital services should and will be governed. Working papers, teaching material, workshops, conferences and dedicated schools for advanced students are our working tools.

EuromediApp operates for three years (2020 – 2023) along three modules:

1. European political democracy (inclusion and exclusion, diversity and uniformity, trust and distrust);
2. Quality of European (news) ecology, including journalism, individualised procedures of political information, populism, polarisation and depolarisation, personalisation, scandalisation, information/propaganda/misinformation; and
3. European governance models of digital media and the internet by media/platform companies and governments, utopian and dystopian views of digital media and democracy.

Media4Democracy - Stakeholders

Media4Democracy is an EU-funded Technical Assistance Facility strengthening the European Union Delegations’ ability to implement the EU Human Rights Guidelines on Freedom of Expression Online and Offline.

Its mission is to support the EU Delegations’ broad and coherent implementation of the EU Guidelines on Freedom of Expression and to help them to identify, design and implement appropriate near-, medium- and long-term actions.

Media4Democracy is based in Brussels and provides advocacy support and capacity building services to all EU Delegations (EUDs) worldwide, as well as customised technical support to individual EU Delegations.

Fojo Media Institute - Stakeholders

Fojo is Sweden’s leading institute for media development, working to strengthen free, independent and professional journalism in Sweden and worldwide.

Fojo is an independent institute at the public Linnaeus University, one of Sweden’s biggest universities.

Since 1972, Fojo has built capacity of over 50,000 journalists from more than 100 countries, and is currently active in around 20 countries. Our work centres on the three key words – free, independent and professional.

Coalition For Women In Journalism - Stakeholders

The Coalition For Women In Journalism fosters and supports camaraderie between women journalists around the globe. We were the first to pioneer a worldwide support network for women journalists. Through our mentorship program and advocation for a safe and flourishing professional environment, we are creating spaces for women journalists where they can be nurtured, stay safe, and expand their skills. We work with no national or ethnic boundaries, and offer support to women from all backgrounds.

The Coalition launched in March 2017 as a pro-bono org.

From 2019 it operates as an NGO with the seed funding received from Craig Newmark Philanthropies.

Global Investigative Journalism Network - GIJN - Stakeholders

The Global Investigative Journalism Network is an international association of journalism organizations that support the training and sharing of information among investigative and data journalists, even in repressive regimes and marginalized communities.

Key activities include:

• Providing resources and networking services to investigative journalists worldwide;
• Publishing in multiple languages and on multiple platforms the latest tools, techniques and opportunities for those in the field;
• Helping organize and promote regional and international training conferences and workshops;
• Assisting in the formation and sustainability of journalism organizations involved in investigative reporting and data journalism around the world;
• Supporting and promoting best practices in investigative and data journalism;
• Supporting and promoting efforts to ensure free access to public documents and data worldwide.

International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) - Stakeholders

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) is a non-profit organisation based in Wasington DC (USA) that works at the nexus of journalism and technology, building the expertise and storytelling skills of reporters worldwide. ICFJ work in five key areas: Media Innovation; Investigative Reporting; Global Exchanges; Speciality Journalism and Diversity Programs. It is active in 8 regions worldwide, including Europe.

Internews - Stakeholders

Internews is an international non-profit organization. It aims at empowering local media worldwide and to provide people a mean to make their voices heard. It also carries out research and training activities addressed both to media professionals and citizen journalists. Internews has worked in more than 90 countries, and currently has offices in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and North America.

Freedom of the Press Foundation - Stakeholders

Freedom of the Press Foundation supports public-interest journalism worldwide. Involving prominent investigative journalists such as Glenn Greenwald and Laura Poitras as well as whistleblowers such as Edward Snowden, the foundation focuses on government transparency and compliance with the law and the constitution: as they state, "we strive to make government as open and transparent as possible". To this end, the Foundation promotes advocacy campaigns to defend the rights of journalists and whistleblowers and to keep authorities accountable.

Freedom of the Press Foundation also provides direct support to journalists and media outlets, notably by launching crowdfunding campaigns aimed at supporting critical work carried out by non-profit watchdog organizations, in order to defuse political and financial pressure on them. The Foundation supports investigative reporting also by developing, advertising and teaching journalists to use a variety of tools aimed at protecting digital communications and at making whistleblower submission safer, such as the SecureDrop system. 

Centre for Freedom of the Media - Stakeholders

The Centre for Freedom of the Media (CFOM) is a research and advocacy centre based at the Department of Journalism Studies of the University of Sheffield. It focuses on media freedom issues worldwide employing a variety of perspectives and tools. Besides traditional academic and educational activities, the Centre is active in the information and advocacy field, monitoring the state of media freedom and sharing best practice and resources for journalists. It seeks to counter threats to journalism safety and freedom in many different countries, and it promotes positive changes to laws, policy and practice concerning them.

PEN International - Stakeholders

PEN International is the worlds leading association of writers, working to promote literature and defend freedom of expression around the world. Founded in 1921, today it connects an international community of writers from its Secretariat in London, spanning over 100 countries, with 149 PEN Centres worldwide. PEN's campaigns, events and programmes connect writers and readers, strengthen freedom of expression, defend linguistic rights and promote quality education at the national, regional and international level across the globe. PEN International is a non-political organisation which holds Special Consultative Status at the UN and Associate Status at UNESCO.
